Three-day Yakshotsava in city from July 7

Mysuru: A three-day Yakshotsava has been organised at Jaganmohan Palace in city from July 7 to 9 by Innovative – Mysuru in association with the Department of Kannada and Culture.

July 7: Journalist B. Ganapathy of Vishwavani (Bengaluru) will inaugurate at 6 pm. Bellipadi Yaksha Samskruti Trust President Dr. Bellipadi Satish Rai, Kannada & Culture Asst. Director H. Chennappa and Journalist Amshi Prasannakumar of Kannada Prabha (Mysuru) will be the chief guests. Yakshagana scholar and Innovative President G.S. Bhatta will preside. Following the inauguration, Yakshagana ‘Sougandhikaapaharana’ will be presented.

July 8: Parthisubba Namana and Yakshagana Talamaddale programmes will be held at Maharaja’s College Junior BA Hall at 10.30 am. Maharaja’s College Principal Prof. C.P. Sunitha will inaugurate. Social worker K. Raghuram will preside. Maharaja’s College Folk Department Head Dr. H.R. Chethan and Karnataka Janapada Parishat President G. Prakash will be the chief guests.

Kanipura Yakshagana Monthly Chief Editor M. N. Chambaltimar will speak on ‘Yakshagana Valmiki Parthisubba’ and Yakshagana scholar Dr. Kabbinale Vasantha Bharadwaj will talk on ‘Parthisubbana Mahakavya.’ Talamaddale ‘Pattabhisheka Bhanga’ of Parthisubba will follow with Subraya Hebbar as Bhagavata, accompanied by Parameshwara Hegde and Taaresara on maddale. Arathadaris – Dr. Kabbinale Vasantha Bharadwaj, Vid. K. Krishnakumar Acharya and Vid. Sankadagundi Ganapathy Bhat.

The day’s programme is organised by the Janapada Sangha of Maharaja’s College Folk Department and Karnataka Janapada Parishat, Mysuru Unit.

Chittani Award presentation: The same day (July 8) at 6 pm at Jaganmohan Palace, Chittani Award will be presented to Yakshagana artiste, organiser and critic Srinivas Sasthan by retired VC of University of Mysore Dr. S.N. Hegde. Journalist Ravindra Bhat of Prajavani will deliver felicitation address. Hotelier Narayana Hegde will be the chief guest. G.S. Bhatta will preside. Yakshagana ‘Maruti Pratapa’ will follow.

July 9: Yakshagana ‘Duryodana Avasana’ will be presented at 5 pm at Jaganmohan Palace. Yakshagana exponent G.S. Bhatta will be felicitated at 6 pm. On the occasion, former CM and MP Dr. M. Veerappa Moily will release the felicitation volume ‘Uttarottara’ published by Mahima Prakashana. MLA Vasu will be the chief guest. Poetess Dr. Kavita Rai will deliver the felicitation address. Industrialist and art patron from Chamarajanagar G.M. Hegde will preside. Yakshagana will continue.
