Mysuru: The Mysuru City Police have launched a crackdown on unauthorised drone operations at tourist spots and other locations, seizing 3 drones so far.

Devaraja Police told Star of Mysore this morning that the three drones were seized as part of an ongoing drive against unauthorised aerial operations and violations of safety norms.

According to Police sources, a dedicated team has been formed to trace and seize drones being operated without the required permission. The team has identified and seized the three devices during searches in different areas.

Of the three drones seized, one was reportedly being operated by a local social media influencer, while the other two were being flown for recreational and entertainment purposes without the required permission. All three drones are currently in Police custody.

On Sept. 8, Star of Mysore had published a report titled ‘Drone Menace, Dist. Admin Clueless! Permission needed to fly drones over heritage sites but no one cares and so, drones fill city sky this Dasara…’, highlighting concerns over the unchecked use of drones, particularly with elephants undergoing practice for Jumboo Savari from Mysore Palace to Bannimanatp Grounds.

The report had pointed out that drones flying over elephants could pose a safety risk as the buzzing sound could disturb the elephants and potentially trigger an unpre-dictable reaction.

Police officials said senior department officials are being consulted to determine the applicable legal provisions and charges to be filed against the drone operators.

Formal ban enforced

The Police have reiterated that flying drones without prior authorisation is prohibited, particularly in public places, prominent tourist spots and crowded areas.

Those intending to operate drones are required to obtain the necessary permission and should approach the DCP (Law & Order) for the same, the Police said.

Violations will invite action under applicable drone regulations and other relevant laws, including Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), depending on the nature of the offence.
