Virajpet: Four deaths were reported from Kodagu district this morning. While three estate workers were electrocuted, one girl drowned in a lake.

In the first incident, three estate workers were electrocuted when they came in contact with a live 66 KV power transmission line at Aruvathokkalu near Gonikoppal in South Kodagu. The deceased have been identified as Satish, Dharmaraj and Ravi. The incident occurred when they went to pluck coconuts at a plantation that belonged to a certain Rama Janam of the village.

According to the Police, one worker climbed up a coconut tree using an aluminium ladder to pluck tender coconuts.

The ladder, however, accidentally touched the power line that passed through the plantation. Seeing smoke bellowing from his body and hearing his screams, two other workers rushed to his rescue and even they were electrocuted when they touched the aluminium ladder.

It is not, however, clear who climbed the ladder first. All the three bodies were burnt beyond recognition. Gonikoppal Police and officials from Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Company rushed to the spot. Gonikoppal Police have registered a case.

In the second incident, a 13-year-old girl drowned in lake at Seventh Hosakote in Somwarpet taluk this morning at around 11. The deceased is identified as Parathi. She was playing with her pet dog and the dog ran towards the lake and chasing her pet that was running along the lake’s border, Parathi accidentally fell into the lake that was deep. Suntikoppa Police have registered a case.
