Three huge trees axed

Mysore/Mysuru: It seems that there is an increase in tree felling in city of late with three huge trees being axed at Social Welfare Department Office premises and at SBI premises in Saraswathipuram.

This incident just a few days after the Forest Department registered a case after a huge 40-year-old tree was felled near Saraswathipuram 1st Main.

Reason: The tree was obstructing the view of an under-construction commercial complex. Now, the three huge trees were felled to facilitate construction of a canteen, it is learnt and ironically, no permission was taken to axe the tree, which has angered environmentalists, who said that if such indiscriminate felling of trees continues in city, it will cause adverse effect on the environment. Meanwhile, Range Forest Officer (RFO) Sudhindra said that three trees have been axed in a private place without taking permission.

Spot inspection was conducted and the felled trees have been seized, the RFO said and added that the owner of the private place will be questioned and future course of action will be initiated.
