‘Three lakh city homes to get piped gas in 5 years’

Clearances at Government and MCC levels have slowed down rollout

Mysore/Mysuru: Nearly three lakh households in Mysuru city will be connected to Piped Natural Gas (PNG) over the next four to five years, Nitin, Vice President of Think Gas Private Limited, said recently.

Addressing a press conference at Hotel Sandesh The Prince, he said a 160-km steel pipeline has already been laid from Bidadi near Bengaluru to Mysuru to facilitate gas supply.

At present, 5,400 households and 14 industries in Mysuru are receiving piped gas. In total, 242 km of distribution pipeline has been laid in the city.

More than 43,400 households have registered for PNG connections and about 10,000 of them will be connected within the next six months, he said.

Nitin acknowledged that legal and administrative procedures at Government and Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) levels had slowed the rollout but assured that the project is progressing steadily. He said safety has been a priority in the pipeline design, ensuring resilience even during natural disasters.

Addressing concerns about global supply disruptions, Nitin clarified that the ongoing Middle East conflict has not affected gas availability. “We are supplying gas to 14 locations across Karnataka, including Mysuru and have sufficient reserves to meet demand,” he said.

Senior Vice President Brijesh Singh and Regional Head Sanjeev Soman were also present. Earlier, AG&P Pratham had taken up the PNG project in Mysuru. Now, it has merged with Think Gas to operate under a single brand.
