Three manholes left open in Sathagalli

May 24, 2026

Sir,

Residents behind the Minority Boys Hostel in A-Zone, Sathagalli, are facing severe inconvenience due to incomplete manhole works and non-functioning street lights in the locality.

Several manholes in the area are blocked and remain non-functional, creating unhygienic conditions, foul smell and mosquito breeding.

On May 5, 2026, residents collectively spent around Rs. 12,000 to clean five manholes  in the locality.

However, despite the cleaning work being completed, only two manhole covers were provided and closed by the Rammanahalli Panchayat Office, while the remaining cleaned manholes have been left open.

Residents have repeatedly requested the authorities to provide covers and close the cleaned manholes. However, despite continuous follow-ups from May 5 to 15, no proper action has been taken.

The open manholes pose a serious safety risk to children, elderly people and the general public, especially at night, as several street lights in the area are also not functioning.

Residents say that despite paying property taxes ranging from Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 20,000 annually, basic civic amenities continue to be neglected.

The residents have urged the authorities concerned and the Rammanahalli Panchayat Office to immediately complete the manhole closure work and restore the street lights in the interest of public  hygiene and safety.
