‘Thyaga Vaibhavam’: A unique rendition of music and dance on Sunday

March 23, 2024

Mysore/Mysuru: Naatya Sabha, Mysuru, is organising “Thyaga Vaibhavam,” a unique rendition of Karnatak music and Bharathanatyam based on the Pancharatna Kritis of great saint Tyagaraja, as part of Sri Thyagaraja Aradhane.

City’s renowned dance group Kalarpanam will be presenting this programme on Sunday (Mar. 24) at 6 pm at Ramagovinda Kalavedike of Ganabharathi in Kuvempunagar.

The unique aspect of this programme is the presentation of Bharathanatyam alongside the Karnatak classical music concert. It is not just the vocalists or instrumentalists taking centrestage, but also dancers performing in parallel, much like how the homage to Thyagaraja unfolds in Karnatak classical music.

It would be very appropriate to view it as a confluence of a Karnatak music concert and a Bharatanatyam recital. These collaborations beautifully balance the aesthetics of music, literature and dance of Indian heritage.

The concept and choreography are by highly talented Apoorva G. Murthy and R. Pawan Kumar of Mysuru. The music ensemble includes Shruthi Ranjani & Rakesh Iyyar on vocals; Apoorva G. Murthy on Nattuvanga; Gowtham on mridanga; Anantha Krishnaswamy on Rhythm pad; Vijayasurya on Nagaswaram and Shrinidhi on flute.

Dancers are Aninditha Menon, Deeksha, Tyaniya Alphi, Bhuvan Kumar, Meghana Bhat, Shwetha, Rashmi Achar, Sukruthi Priya, Pavan Kumar,  Sheela Prabha and Supreetha Sachin.
