Mysuru: As part of the 60th Tibetan Uprising Day, the Regional Tibetan Women’s Association (RTWA) of Bylakuppe, Hunsur and Kollegal Tibetan Settlements took out a march in city on Tuesday to draw the attention of the concerned for protection of human rights of Tibetans in Tibet.
They took out a procession from Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple and reached the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, where they staged a dharna.
They also lit earthen lamps to pay homage to martyrs who had sacrificed their lives for Tibet. President of RTWA of Bylakuppe Tashi Choedon, Hunsur RTWA President Tamding Dolma, Kollegal RTWA President Tashi Yangzom and others took part in the demonstration.
Tibet Day exhibition at Mysore University
As part of the 60th commemoration of Tibetan National Uprising Day and also 60 years since His Holiness the Dalai Lama came into exile, the Mysore Tibetan Students Association held a mega Tibet Day Exhibition at University of Mysore where thousands of students and people were explained about various topics on Tibet like Environmental Issue, Human Rights violation in Tibet, Dalai Lama etc. Tibetans became political refugees in 1959 when the Chinese planned to kidnap the Dalai Lama for which Tibetans from all walks of life came together to provide human shield to Norbulingkha where Dalai Lama lived by risking their lives to protect him and were successful.
The Dalai Lama and about 80,000 Tibetans crossed the mighty Himalayas to seek political asylum in India, Nepal and Bhutan and Mar. 10 not only signifies a day of mourning and commemorating those brave hearts who have died for Tibet, but also a day to celebrate the indomitable spirit of Tibetans in prevailing against all odds from one of the most brutal modern day governments.
At Bylakuppe: The 60th National Uprising Day was also observed at the Dalai Lama Old Palace in Bylakuppe. President of Indo-Tibetan Friendship Society B.V. Javaregowda, who was the chief guest, said that the Chinese Government being the Security Council Member of the United Nations should uphold the Democratic values and human rights for the Tibetans in order to celebrate their National Independence Day in Tibet.
When all the countries are celebrating the National Days in their respective countries, why not the Tibetans be allowed to do so? he questioned.
He said that all major countries have recognised the role played by His Holiness Dalai Lama by supporting his non-violent movement in getting freedom to Tibet. He appreciated the Tibetans who are spread over 40 countries for maintaining their culture, religion and language and hoped that good time would come to them to enjoy their freedom by getting back to their home country.
On the occasion the Statement issued by the Tibetan Parliament in exile and Central Tibetan Administration was read by Lobsang, MP and Choezom, Administrative Officer of TDL, Bylakuppe.
Former Minister of Tibetan Government Tsering Puntsok, MPs Samten Choedon, Pema Delek, ex-MP Jigmey, Heads of Monasteries, Co-operative Societies, Presidents of Tibetan Youth Congress and Tibetan Women’s Association, President of Tibetan Freedom Movement, local Justice Commissioner and Principals of Tibetan institutions were present.
