Bylakuppe: Newly elected MP Choppel of the Tibetan Government-in-Exile from Bylakuppe Tibetan Camp met Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar at his office in Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru yesterday.

During the meeting, Choppel sought financial assistance from the State Government for the welfare of the Tibetan community. He also felicitated Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and submitted a memorandum requesting the release of grants to support various initiatives for Tibetans settled in Karnataka.

Addressing the delegation, Shivakumar said that the State Government valued the contribution of the Tibetan community to the State’s culture. He assured them that he would direct the officials to facilitate the participation of the Tibetan community in various cultural events during the Mysuru Dasara celebrations.

Bylakuppe in Kushalnagar taluk is home to one of the largest Tibetan settlements in South India and houses several monasteries and institutions. Community leaders said, the proposed grants would support education, healthcare and cultural preservation activities. The Tibetan delegation expressed gratitude to the Karnataka Government for its continued support over the decades.
