TiE Global Appathon-2022 held

Mysore/Mysuru: TiE Mysuru Chapter participated in the TiE University Global Appathon- 2022 organised by TiE Global on Oct. 8 and 9. It was a weekend gathering of college students and teams to address specifically defined global challenges by Global Companies.

Students were given a pre-set of challenges to address together by going through the four stages of project planning such as brainstorming, planning, prototyping and evaluating an app. Participants created a presentation, wire-frame of their solutions and pitched to a panel international judge.

More than 550 students from  over 10 countries representing 34 cities participated in TiE Global Appathon-2022 Challenge, hosted virtually as well as in person (hybrid) mode across the 34 TiE Chapters. This was a 27-hour Appathon where students developed a wire-frame solution to one of the 4 business challenges from world leaders in their industry. There were two themes — Education Tech and Sustainability Tech.

In Education Tech, it was Excelsoft Technologies, Mysuru and Thimble of USA. Both were talking about AI/ML based solutions. In Sustainability Tech, it was from BMC Software USA and Kimberly Clark USA.

The event by TiE Mysuru Chapter was organised at Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering (VVCE) in Mysuru. There were 51 registered participants consisting of 8 teams.  Of them, 3 teams of VVCE got recognised and won cash prizes totalling 600USD (Rs. 49,434.63).

Team Comet, which worked on Kimberly-Clark’s Carbon Footprint Calculator for Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) being recycled via the Right Cycle Program, provides a solution in the form of an app to have a healthy interface between  their clients in terms of diverting their carbon footprint through the Right-cycle initiative in real-time. They won the fourth prize for this app of 250 USD (Rs. 20,596.01).

Team Climate risk management app from VVCE worked on Corporate Climate Risk Assessment for BMC Challenge, developed an application which  mainly focus on the identification of risks to development activities arising as a result of climate change with the help of a AI prediction model and won the 4th prize with 250 USD (Rs. 20,596.01). Team Compatible in bits won the best domain name and best use of Velo by Wixtechnology tools; they also won the Audience Choice Award with 100 USD (Rs.8,239.68).

Students were mentored by TiE Mysuru Charter Members: Dr. Mahesh Rao, Sabareeshan, B.N. Pramod, Bhaskar Kalale, Nagarajan Srinivasan, Ajith Pai along with Associate Members Prof. G.S. Kishan, Dr. Lokesh and Karthigeyan.

Sudhanva, President of TiE Mysuru and MD, Excelsoft Technology said, “such programmes give excellent exposure to students of Mysuru at the world stage with mentorship and possible internship. It is a great feat for a small TiE Chapter like Mysuru being the only chapter in Karnataka to participate in a worldwide event.”
