February 10, 2018

Mysuru: Availability of skilled manpower for the industry is going to be important to achieve and sustain a higher productivity and proficiency, said CII Mysuru Chairman Arjun Ranga.

He was addressing the members of the CII on the topic ‘Emerging New Manufacturing Technologies and need for Skill Development’ at the CII office premises here recently and said that India ranks sixth among the 10 largest manufacturing countries in the world and is moving progressively for a bigger share in the manufacturing global market.

The next generation manufacturing practices across the world are further pushing quality and competitiveness to higher levels. These shifts are recognised and called as Industry 4.0 or Smart Manufacturing started by Germany and is gaining momentum in US, Japan, China,UK etc., he said.  “Automotive industry is one of the pioneers to implement industry 4.0. The automobile sector in India is one of the largest in the world and accounts for over 7.1 percent of India’s GDP and contributes nearly 22 percent of manufacturing GDP,” he said.

“To remain globally competitive Indian Industry needs to adopt 4.0. It is more important and relevant especially for industries based out of tier-2 cities to be competitive and contribute to our country’s growth,” said Ranga.

“The industries from Mysuru need to look at setting up cluster based multi-skill centres to meet the skilled manpower demand coming from across sectors. We should also strongly bridge industry — institute interaction and handhold in enhancing their infrastructure and training centres,” he said.
