Tiger, elephant carcasses found in Bandipur Forest

Leopardess electrocuted in H.D. Kote

Gundlupet:  The carcases of an elephant and a tiger in a decomposed state was found by the forest staff at Gopalaswamy Hill range and N. Begur Range coming under Bandipur Tiger Reserve.

The Forest staff found the body of a 50-year-old male elephant.

Bandipur Project Tiger Director T. Balachandra, Range Forest Officer (RFO) N.P. Naveen Kumar and staff visited the spot. Vetrinarian Dr. Nagaraj, who conducted post-mortem, said that the elephant had died a natural death. The remains of the elephant was burnt at the spot.

Meanwhile, the carcass of a tiger in a highly decomposed state and partly eaten away by other animals was found in N. Begur Range in Bandipur.

Forest officials said that the tiger had died following a territorial fight.

Dr. Nagaraj conducted post-mortem and the dead tiger was burnt at the spot.

Leopardess electrocuted

A five-year-old leopardess was electrocuted at the Mini Water Supply project at the government land in Jiyara Village about 18 kilometres from H.D. Kote last night.

The body of the leopardess with electric cable in its mouth was found this morning.

H.D. Kote RFO Madhu has suspected that the leopardess could have been electrocuted when it came to drink water or may be when it was going out after quenching its thirst.

Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Parameshwarappa, Wildlife Warden Krithika and other visited the spot.
