Mysuru: Accusing the Centre of practicing anti-labour policies, former General Secretary of All India Postal Employees Union (AIPEU) R. Seethalakshmi has expressed concern whether the Postal Department will remain with the public sector or not.

She was speaking at the Bi-Annual Conference of All India Group-C Postal Employees, MTS and Rural Postmen Association held at RTTC (Regional Telecom Training Centre) in Saraswathipuram here on Sunday.

Alleging that the Centre’s policies on labour were dealing a severe blow to the working class, Seethalakshmi claimed that none of the bills passed by the Centre in the past 15 days favoured the working class or the common man.

She maintained that the livelihood of thousands of families belonging to the working class was under threat because of the Centre’s push to scrap several ordinances that were in favour of the working class.

Referring to the Centre’s Finance Bill, she said that the Bill has many new banking terms and clauses that were detrimental to the interests of customers.

Strongly condemning the new definitions being given to the term ‘employee’, she stressed on the need for launching an organised movement to contain new definitions being made that favoured capitalists.

Underlining the role of postal employees in the growth of the Department, Senior Superintendent of Posts, Mysuru Division, N. Prakash said that the contribution of every employee was vital for the Postal Department to sustain and survive.

AIPEU office-bearers K. Srinivas, M. Manjunath, H.R. Eshwarappa, Devapal, Muthukumar, H. Sundaraiah and others were present at the Bi-Annual Conference.
