Mysuru: Hundreds of members of Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) and All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) took out a rally to mark the International Labour Day (May Day) in city yesterday.

The rally began from Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple and passed through main thoroughfares of the city. The participants raised slogans against the alleged exploitations of workers and also highlighted the problems being faced by the workers in private and public sector. They also raised slogans against the proposed privatisation of BEML by the Central Government.

The Associations blamed the Government for diluting the labour laws for the benefit of the capitalists and added that the workers were losing their job security and were also denied of post-retirement facilities.

Speaking at a function organised by CITU at Gandhi Bhavan yesterday, LIC Employees’ Association Mysuru Division Gen. Secretary Vijaykumar said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi was pushing the country towards economic slavery by favouring the capitalists.

“Employers are harassing the workers despite they working hard to earn their daily bread. This apart, the workers are under severe work pressure which is denying them time to spend with their family members” he added.

The members also criticised the concept of contract labour and added that though Supreme Court had directed workers in the unorganised sector and those hired on a contract basis be extended all benefits,                                          the Government was yet to implement the same.
