Trade Unions to stage Nationwide stir on January 8 and 9

December 14, 2018

Mysuru: Accusing the Centre of following an anti-labour policy, Trade Unions will stage a two-day Nationwide stir on Jan. 8 and 9.

Addressing a meeting of Mysuru District Committee of the Federation of Trade Unions at Town Hall in city recently, Trade Unions Leader L. Sheshadri said that the wrong policies of the Centre had hit the working class and common man hard.

As such, a host of Trade Unions which include All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), All India United Trade Union Centre (AIUTUC), Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) and All India Central Council of Trade Unions (AICCTU) have called for a nationwide stir on Jan.8 and 9 to protest the Centre’s policies, he said.

Pointing out that the Trade Unions have been demanding minimum wages, abolition of contract system, equal pay for equal work, recognition of Trade Unions, social security, a hike in EPS pension and strengthening of public sector, among others, Sheshadri said that the Trade Unions strongly condemn the Centre’s policies which favour corporates, while ignoring the working class.

Calming that Demonetisation led to the closure of 2.34 lakh small scale industries, with over 70 lakh people losing jobs across the country, he alleged that the Centre was twisting statistics to defend itself.

Accusing the Centre of amending Labour Laws in favour of employers, he alleged that the Centre’s anti-labour and other wrong policies were severely affecting the lives of the common man. He said that the two-day stir on Jan.8 and 9, 2019 is aimed at warning the Centre against pursuing anti-people policies.

Trade Union leaders M. Shashidhar, K.N. Umesh, N.M. Muthappa and others attended the meeting.
