Trade Unions to support Nationwide stir on Jan. 8

December 27, 2019

Mysuru:  Announcing that various Trade Unions have called for a nationwide stir on Jan.8, 2020, seeking fulfilment of their demands, AITUC General Secretary H.R. Sheshadri has appealed the Labour Unions of Mysuru to extend support to the stir in order to make it a success.

Addressing a press meet here yesterday, Sheshadri said that the Trade Unions have put forward a 12-point charter of demands to the Government, which includes minimum wages of Rs. 21,000 and pension for workers, among others.

Alleging that the Union Government was pursuing anti-labour policies, he urged for strict implementation of labour laws, setting up of Labour Courts in all districts and a monthly pension for Rs.10,000 to all workers. Accusing the Government of attempting to sideline Trade Unions by making amendments to the Apprentice Act, Sheshadri claimed that demonetisation and GST had badly hurt the small and medium-scale industries, rendering lakhs of workers jobless.

Asserting that the all India labour stir on Jan.8 is getting widespread support from all parts of the country, he said that a walkathon has been planned in Mysuru on Jan. 4 in support of the stir. A round table conference has been called at the AITUC Office in Saraswathipuram at 5 pm tomorrow (Dec.28), to discuss the preparations for the strike, he said and added that rallies and protests will mark the nationwide stir. AITUC office-bearers Chandrashekar Meti, Jayaram, H.P. Ramakrishna and others were present at the press meet.
