Traffic ACP cautions consumers while buying products

Mysuru: Consumers must always keep an eye on the products when they buy them as otherwise they will get cheated, said ACP (Traffic)  G.N. Mohan.

He was speaking after inaugurating the District Committee of Nava Karnataka Grahakara Jagruthi Vedike at the Institution of Engineers’ S.P. Bhat Hall here yesterday and said there is always a tussle between the consumer and the seller as the former always feels that he or she is being cheated by the manufacturer or seller.

It is also found that most of the manufacturers do not adhere to stringent manufacturing standards as they do not mention the specifications like quality, expiry date and date of manufacture.

By not noticing these instructions on the label many a times, customers are sold products which have passed the expiry date and thus they get cheated. If people for instance buy medicines which have passed the expiry date then it might not have the potency and thus it will be useless to buy such drugs. Hence, care must always be taken by the customers to check for details, he said.

The consumers should also know that according the Consumer Protection Act they have every right to question the shop owner or the manufacturer if there are any malpractices and bring it to the notice of Grahakara Parishats.

For instance if the Service Tax is included in the bill while one goes to eat at a restaurant then it can be questioned as Service Tax has already been included in the GST (Goods and Services Tax), he pointed out. The consumer should always learn to question when one sees a product that is duplicated and in turn create awareness among the people, said Mohan. Nava Karnataka Grahakara Jagruthi Vedike State President R. Chandrakant, State Secretary K.C. Boregowda, District President S.N. Manjunath, D. Devaraj Urs Backward Classes Development Corporation retired Manager V. Channappa and others were present.
