This has reference to my letter ‘Restore traffic signal lights at Akkamahadevi Road Junction’ published in Star of Mysore dated June 3.

I was happy to note that following the publication of my letter, all the traffic signal lights at the junction were restored and functioning perfectly on all days. Most motorists were diligently following traffic rules, except for a few two-wheeler riders who jumped the red signal in their haste to cross the line.

It was fervently hoped that all the traffic signal lights at the junction would remain operational at all times without being switched off. But this was not to be.

Now, all the traffic signal lights, including the pedestrian signals, have once again been switched off, except for the amber lights, which keep blinking intermittently. It is utter chaos at the junction once more.

One fails to understand why the lights have been switched off without any apparent reason. Are the authorities concerned waiting for a serious incident to occur before taking concrete action in the matter?

I hope better sense prevails and all the traffic signal lights are switched on again and kept functional at all times.
