I wish to draw attention to the increasing traffic violations in Mysuru, which continue to rise despite heavy fines and extensive camera surveillance.

Growing traffic congestion and indiscipline are causing considerable hardship to citizens, while habitual violators remain largely undeterred.

The policy of granting substantial concessions on traffic fines may weaken their deterrent effect.

Though introduced for relief or administrative purposes, it conveys that violations can be resolved by paying a reduced fine, thereby undermining the seriousness of traffic laws and encouraging repeat offences.

The increasing involvement  of underage offenders further highlights gaps in enforcement and accountability.

There is an urgent need to shift from revenue-oriented enforcement to corrective and preventive measures.

These may include regulated stricter action against repeat offenders, mandatory road safety education, community service and accountability of parents and vehicle owners in cases involving minors.

Improved traffic engineering measures, such as better signal synchronisation, strict lane enforcement, designated parking zones, encouragement of public transport and regular awareness campaigns on road discipline, are also essential to ease congestion and improve safety.

Addressing traffic density and promoting road sense at this stage is critical to prevent Mysuru from facing the severe traffic challenges experienced by larger cities. I request the authorities to consider these concerns and measures in the larger public interest.
