Train MBBS students and grads on Airway Management: Medical Education Director

Mysuru: Cauvery Heart and Multispeciality Hospital, Siddarthanagar, had organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) Programme and workshop on “Airway management” for doctors in the hospital conference hall recently.

Airway Management is a crucial skill required for people working in sensitive and critical areas like Emergency Department, Intensive Care Units and Operation Theatre. A small lapse or more than 5 minutes delay in appropriately handling the airway may sometime result in serious damages or repercussions in the form of brain damage because of lack of oxygen.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr. S. Sachidanand, Director of Medical Education, Government of Karnataka.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sachidanand stressed on the need to train MBBS students and graduates on Airway Management in addition to specialists and post-graduates.

Dr. Dakshayani, Principal of Mysore Medical College, who was the chief guest, promised to help on cadaver bases training on Airway Management in future.

Dr. G.R. Chandrashekar, Chairman of the Hospital and Syndicate Member of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) presided. Dr. Raghunath, President of ISCCM, Mysore Chapter, Dr. Prathiba, Secretary of ISA, Mysore Chapter along with Dr. Vaidyanathan, Organising Secretary, were present.

About 90 delegates from Mysuru, Tumakuru, Hassan and Bengaluru were present. More than 50 PG students from MMC&RI, JSS Medical College, AIMS, Bellur participated in the day-long CME and workshop conducted by experienced faculty from Mysuru, Bengaluru and Australia.
