Training on basic life-saving skills tomorrow

Mysore/Mysuru: National Bone and Joint Day is observed every year on Aug. 4. This year the Indian Orthopaedic Association will celebrate the Day with the theme ‘Each One Train One Save One’, according to which the focus is on the deaths occurred due to accidents this year in the country.

To mark the occasion, Mysore Orthopaedic Association too has organised unique programmes in city, said Joint Secretary of the Association S. Raghunandan addressing a press meet at Patrakarthara Bhavana here.

On Aug. 4, a basic life skills savings programme has been organised for high school students of Sharada Public School and Pushkarini School, along with journalists.

On Aug. 6 at 7 am, a 3.5 kms Strong Bone Strong India Walkathon has been organised from Maharaja’s College grounds to create awareness on Osteoporosis. Deputy Commissioner Dr. K.V. Rajendra will flag off the walkathon in which Orthopaedics and staff of several hospitals will take part.

He explained that “In the year 2019, a total of 4,49,002 accidents were reported in the country and 1,51,113 people lost their lives, with 4,51,361 left injured. Most of the people died due to lack of adequate treatment in the first one hour (Golden Hour). If such accident victims are provided proper first-aid, most of the lives can be saved.”

Association Secretary Dr. Shreyas Alva was also present.
