Training workshop held for Visually Impaired

Mysuru: Ranga Rao Memorial School of Disabled (RMSD), N.R. Group, hosted a training workshop that was organised by the National Federation of the Blind, Karnataka, for visually impaired, on Nov. 4 and 5, in their school premises.

The workshop was inaugurated by R. Guru, Chairman, N.R. Group and Hemanth, Manager, National Federation of the Blind.

Speaking about the workshop, R. Guru said, “The workshop is a well-thought through initiative taken by bodies working for the betterment of visually impaired people. The training session will not only help them to develop better skills but will also assist in shaping their future.”

The workshop aimed to train and guide the visually impaired students on various assistive devices (Smartphone, Daisy player and Smart Cane), capacity building and future career options. The short-term training regime has been aided by ‘National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities.’

The programme is providing special counselling and imparting information regarding access to assistive reading and learning devices.

The two-day session saw participation from RMSD students of class 8th, 9th and 10th along with its teachers and alumni.

RMSD is a free residential school for visually challenged girls from economically disadvantaged background, giving them a platform for education and well-being.

Faiaz, Executive Committee Member, Mahesh Kumar, Librarian, Hampaiah, Braille Transcriptor, and Sachin, Daisy Player Consultant, were also present during the occasion.
