A Head Constable, who was transferred from Devaraja Police Station to Kuvempunagar Police Station, attempting suicide by consuming pesticide, has been reported from Devaraja Police Station premises yesterday afternoon.
The Head Constable, who attempted suicide, has been identified as T.G. Venkatesh Gowda, who is now undergoing treatment in an ICU at a private hospital in city.
It is reported that Venkatesh Gowda, who was serving in Devaraja Police Station as a Head Constable since three years, was charged with dereliction of duty and Devaraja Inspector Nagesh had submitted a report in this regard to the higher officers.
Based on the report of Inspector Nagesh, the higher officials had transferred Venkatesh Gowda to Kuvempunagar Police Station.
Yesterday afternoon, Inspector Nagesh summoned Venkatesh to the Police Station to give him his (Venkatesh Gowda) relieving letter, but Venkatesh, who refused to accept the letter, came out of the Police Station and consumed pesticide, which he had brought along and attempted to commit suicide. Venkatesh’s colleagues, who saw the incident, rushed him to a private hospital for treatment. DCP (Law and Order) Dr. H.T. Shekar and ACP Rajashekar visited the hospital and enquired the condition of Venkatesh.
DCP Dr. H.T. Shekar said that Venkatesh was facing charges of dereliction of duty and based on the report from the Inspector, he was transferred. Depressed over the issue, Venkatesh has consumed pesticide, he said and added that Venkatesh was out of danger. A case has been registered at Devaraja Police Station in this regard.
