Translation is the best way to propagate literary works, says littérateur Dr. CPK

January 5, 2021

Books Sahitya Samvedane, Sahitya Vimarshe and Kalhanana Rajatarangini released

Mysore/Mysuru: Observing that translation is the best way for promoting literary works of any language, littérateur Dr. C.P. Krishna Kumar (CPK) said that any aversion to translation is not good for literature.

He was speaking after releasing three works — Sahitya Samvedane, Sahitya Vimarshe and Kalhanana Rajatarangini — of writer Dr. S. Shivarajappa, who is also the Director of Oriental Research Institute (ORI) – Mysuru, at a programme  jointly organised by District Kannada Sahitya Parishat and Tara Prakashana at the District Sahitya Bhavan in Vijayanagar here recently.

Regretting that most of the people tend to ignore the art of translation, Dr. CPK said that in reality, translation is key for advancement of the language in all respects.

Pointing out that Dr. Shivarajappa’s Sanskrit work Kalhanana Rajatarangini has eight chapters, he said that the work is unique in its own sense, with the author translating the first chapter into Kannada.

Stating that the work sheds light on the history of a Kashmiri Royal family, he said that the work assumes importance in the backdrop of ancient times when character was considered more important than recording history.

He further said that Dr. Shivarajappa had done an excellent job of writing the books at a time when reading habit is declining among the population.

DCP Dr. A.N. Prakash Gowda, Kannada Sahitya Parishat Mysuru President Dr. Y.D. Rajanna, writer Dr. Jayappa Honnali, author Dr. S. Shivarajappa and others were present during the occasion.
