Mysuru: The branches of a tree that was marring the view of a commercial building under construction at Saraswathipuram in the city have been allegedly axed, irking environmentalists.
Bhanu Prashanth, Convener of Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP), has alleged that, the branches of the tree on the footpath of 5th Main in Saraswathipuram have been cut, without securing the prerequisite permission of Forest Department.
The new commercial building is being built adjacent to a girls Paying Guest (PG) accommodation. The branches were obstructing the view of the building and hence were cut.
Following the information, Bhanu Prashanth and fellow environmentalist Bhanu Mohan visited the spot and stopped the woodcutters from pruning the tree further.
Deputy Range Forest Officer (DRFO) Gurumurthy and Forest Guard Santosh visited the spot and seized the wooden logs upon inspection and filed a case.
The owner of the same commercial building has also got an electric pole shifted a distance away from the nearby spot. Moreover, it is also being said that, no construction license has been secured from Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) for the building works.
The issue has been brought to the notice of MCC Zone-3 Zonal Commissioner.
