Lack of co-ordination among Bank and Govt. officials irks ZP CEO

Mysuru: Lack of co-ordination among the bank and government officials has been the main reason for non-implementation of various subsidised loan programme announced by both State and Central Government to for benefit of the youth. 

This was the issue that came up during quarterly progress review meeting of all Banks conducted by State Bank of India, which is also the Lead Bank of the district, at ZP auditorium here, recently.

During the meeting it was found that many welfare programmes had failed as it could not reach the actual beneficiaries because of the lack of co-ordination among the bank and government officials. 

Presiding over the meeting, ZP CEO K. Jyothi expressed her disappointment over the banks and government officials for the many schemes having failed to reach the people. “Welfare schemes and subsidised loans are announced by the Government to help the rural youth and economically weaker section to improve their condition. But, lack of co-ordination among the officials has only contributed for the failure of welfare schemes,” she said.

Banks officials present in the meeting also failed to provide information about the progress made in the MUDRA scheme announced by Central Government for young entrepreneurs. They failed to provide information regarding — How many had applied under the scheme? How many applications were rejected? And how many were granted loans to start their business?

Later, Jyothi, who was unhappy with the reply, instructed the officials of Industries Department, Banks, NARBARD and RBI to co-ordinate between them and see that the welfare schemes reached the actual beneficiaries. 

She also instructed the bank officials not to reject the loan applications but to review them again, explain the applicants about the schemes and also encourage the beneficiaries to repay the loans.

The meeting also witnessed altercations between Lead Bank Manager Venkatachalapathy and Nagaraj of RBI. District Industries Centre Joint Director Lingaraju also mentioned about the banks not considering the applications of beneficiaries under various schemes. 

The meeting decided to conduct an awareness and training programme after Dasara for both entrepreneurs and beneficiaries to discuss on various schemes and related issues.
