Tribal agriculturists stage stir, seek implementation of Forest Rights Act

August 11, 2018

Mysuru: Urging implementation of Forest Dwellers’ Forest Rights Act, tribal agriculturists, under the banner of H.D. Kote Taluk Tribal Agriculturists Association, staged a protest in city on Thursday.

The Association members, who assembled in front of Mahatma Gandhi bust opposite to City Law Courts Complex here, garlanded the bust and staged a protest for sometime. They then took out a rally to the DC office after passing through Krishnaraja Boulevard and held a demonstration in front of the DC office.

The protestors demanded that khata be given to those farmers whose lands (1 to 3 acres) were acquired. They also demanded basic facilities be provided to 11 Forest Rights Committees coming under DB Kuppe and S. Beltur Gram Panchayats where khatas were distributed.

They also demanded change in the Central Government Camp Act which has been implemented as the Act was snatching away the Forest Rights of the tribals. The protestors urged for the implementation of amended rules of the 2012 Act.

DEED Director Srikanth, Tribal Agriculturists Association President Kenchaiah, Secretary D.M. Basavaraju, Tribal leaders Vijaykumar, Ramu, H.D. Kote Nisarga Foundation’s Gurudeva Aradhya and others were present during the protest.
