Tribal stir enters fifth day

H.D. Kote:  The indefinite stir launched by tribals in front of the Mini Vidhana Soudha of H.D. Kote town seeking fulfilment of their various demands, entered the fifth day on Friday.

Marking the fifth day’s stir, tribals from Hunsur, H.D.Kote and Periyapatna taluks, under the banner of Karnataka Aranya Moola Budakattu Samudayagala Okkoota and Haadi Aranya Samithigala Okkoota, formed human chain near the KSRTC bus stand in the town.

The demands include implementation of the Forest Rights Act, Rehabilitation of Nugu, Taraka and Kabini projects’ displaced persons, housing and employment for tribals and proper civic amenities in tribal hamlets, among others.

The tribals also demanded that District Minister G.T. Devegowda visit them to hear their grievances. The Okkoota leaders Shailendra Kumar, Siddaraju, Puttamma, Sanna Kumar and others took part in the stir.
