May 11, 2019

Mysuru: It was a day they wished that would never come to an end. Nearly 140 children, all from poor families had enjoyed the free summer camp at the District Jawahar Bal Bhavan, Bannimantap, for the last 15 days and yesterday was the last day.

There was cheer and joy all around as the children displayed the artworks they had done that included clay models, paintings, craft work, drawings and papier mache works, in the 15 days of the camp.

There was folk dance, group dance, group songs, devotional songs, patriotic songs, light music which all added to the enthusiasm of the kids, all in the age group of 6 to 12.

Bhuvan, a seventh standard student of St. Anne’s School speaking to Star of Mysore said that he was attending the summer camp from the time he was in second standard and he always looked forward to the camp every summer. He recalled that last year the organisers had taken the children to Milk Dairy but this year they were not taken on a  trip anywhere outside.

Trisha, a fifth standard student of St. Joseph’s, Bannimantap, a bundle of talent, who had participated in all the events like drawing, painting, clay modelling and craft work, said that this was the second year she was attending the camp and she would want to come again and again.

Music Teacher of Bal Bhavan Shamala Bai, who is also the organiser of the camp, was a satisfied person as she felt that the children who had participated in the camp were all going back with good memories.

The Fire Department personnel created awareness about fire hazards, the Police brought about awareness regarding traffic rules, and Health Department officials spoke about various diseases and its prevention besides maintaining good health during the 15-day camp.
