Trucks to go off roads from Nov. 10

November 4, 2017

Mysuru: Transportation of various goods may be disrupted as the Truck Owners Association has threatened to go on an indefinite strike from Nov.10.

Addressing a press meet here  on Thursday, District Lorry Owners Association President N. Srinivas Rao said the Transport Department has increased fees for fitness certificate, registration, driving and learning licences and other services.

The State government has not brought down the fees despite several representations, he said and added that if the government doesn’t meet their demands, all lorry owners will stop operations from Nov.10.

Pointing out that there were about 4 lakh trucks in the State, Srinivas  Rao, who is also the Vice-President of the Federation of Karnataka Lorry Owners Association said, earlier the fee for registration of trucks was Rs.600 and now it has been increased to Rs.1,500.

On the installation of speed governors in trucks, he said, in other States, manufacturers charge anywhere between  Rs. 2,000 and Rs.3,000 for speed governors, but in Karnataka, the Transport Department has mandated lorry owners to buy speed governors from one particular company, which charges Rs.11,000.

Alleging that the Truck Terminal (TT) inaugurated by the previous government in Mysuru is yet to start functioning, Srinivas Rao claimed that the government was not giving space at the TT to agents and truck owners.

Association office-bearers Vishwanath, Mahesh, Ravi and others were present at the press meet.
