Turf Authorities of India sponsor Mega Free Eye Screening Camp at MRC Eye Hospital on Mar. 2

February 28, 2020

Mysore Race Club (MRC) Eye Hospital is a prestigious social service project of MRC Charitable Trust. Horse racing was started in Mysore by Maharaja Chamaraja Wadiyar in 1891. MRC Limited celebrated 100 years of horse racing in Mysore in 1991 (1891-1991).  MRC Eye Hospital was established under MRC Charitable Trust to commemorate the centenary of the royal sport of horse racing in Mysore.

MRC Eye Hospital is a 80-bedded Hospital, situated in one acre plot at Siddarthanagar. It is fully equipped with the best of hi-tech instruments. District Blindness Control Societies of Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Mandya and Kodagu districts, Rotary and Lions Clubs and innumerable generous donors are associated with the Hospital for the free eye screening and cataract operation camps.

Till today, the Hospital has conducted about 1,600 Free Eye Screening Camps, examined 11,50,000  out-patients and conducted  81,000 surgeries, out of which 46,000 are free surgeries.

MRC Eye Hospital has been recognised by the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi, for training Post-Graduate students for their PG Diploma (DNB) and MRC Eye Hospital is the only institution in Mysore recognised for this purpose.

The Hospital has been established by generous donations from MRC and its members, the Lions International and the Government of Karnataka.

In 1995, the Hospital started a scheme called ‘Endowment Donor Scheme’ in which any person can join by donating Rs.10,000. This will enable the Hospital to perform one sight-saving surgery on a deserving poor patient free of cost in the name of the donor every year perpetually. This scheme has received tremendous response and as on date more than 1,000 donors have contributed to this scheme.

MRC Eye Hospital has hi-tech equipment like Humphrey Field Analyser, YAG Laser, Green Laser, Fundus Camera, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and a library for the PG students. This Hospital has been recognised by the Government of Karnataka to start an Eye Bank. MRC Eye Hospital has a dedicated team of six Doctors and more than 30 staff members who enthusiastically do their service for the cause of the Hospital.
