Two former MLAs pass away

Belagavi: Former MLA Vishwanath (Rajanna) Mamani, passed away at a private hospital at Hubbali on Friday following brief illness. He was 58. He leaves behind his wife, a son, a daughter and a host of relatives and friends. Mamani, who was elected as an independent candidate from the then Savadatti Constituency in Belagavi in 2004, had supported Congress-JD(S) coalition Govt. headed by N. Dharam Singh.

Vishwanath Mamani, a cousin brother of current MLA Anand Mamani, had identified himself with the now defunct KJP, which was founded by B.S. Yeddyurappa in 2012. Last rites were performed at his native village last evening, according to sources.

Mallappa Veerappa Shetty

Freedom fighter and former MLA Mallappa Veerappa Shetty (97) passed away at Chikkodi in Belagavi on Friday. He is survived by his wife, two sons and four daughters. Shetty was elected from Chikkodi Assembly Constituency in Belagavi in 1962.
