Two held for illegally transporting owl

Mysuru: The personnel of Mysuru Forest Mobile Squad have arrested two persons on charges of illegal transportation of owl and have recovered the owl from them besides seizing the car used for the crime.

The arrested are 24-year-old N.R. Sridhar of Shikaripura in Nagamangala taluk of Mandya district and 46-year-old B.A. Raveesh Rao of Bilugunda village in Virajpet taluk of Kodagu.

Acting on a tip off, the Forest Mobile Squad personnel, who were waiting near Country Club on Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway on Oct.21, stopped a Nano car (KA-12 Z-2680) and on checking the car, they found a live owl in a plastic bag kept on the rear seat.

During interrogation, the Forest personnel came to know that they were taking the owl to Hunsur to sell it following which the Forest squad arrested them besides registering a case under Sections 2(16), 9, 39, 44, 48A, 49, 51 under Wildlife Protection Act of 1972. The accused were produced before a Court, which remanded them to 14 days Judicial custody.
