2 kg whale vomit seized
Mysore/Mysuru: Devaraja Police have arrested two persons when they were trying to sell ambergris, commonly known as ‘whale vomit,’ worth crores of rupees and have seized the ambergris weighing about 2 kg and 200 grams from them. The accused were trying to sell the whale vomit near a tea shop on Vinoba Road here.
The arrested are 44-year-old Samiulla of Rajivnagar 3rd Stage and 40-year-old Raghavendra, a resident of Hinkal Ashram Road in city. Raghavendra is a native of Ganjam in Srirangapatna taluk.
Details: On Aug. 6, one Sannaiah was sipping tea at a tea shop on Vinoba Road, when he overheard the accused speaking to two others. Sanaiah heard the accused telling that they had whale vomit and they could make a lot of money if they sell it in retail to many people.
Sannaiah, who heard their conversation, made sure that the accused had the whale vomit with them and immediately informed Devaraja Police, who conducted an operation and took the accused into custody.
Two others, who were with the accused fled from the spot on seeing the Cops.
The Police also seized the whale vomit, which was with them. As the case was registered under Wildlife Protection Act, the Police are preparing to transfer the case to the Forest Department.
DCP (Law and Order) Pradeep Gunti and Devaraja Sub-Division ACP Shashidhar, guided Devaraja Inspector R. Diwakar, Sub-Inspectors S. Raju and M.R. Leelavathi and staff Venugopal, Suresh, Nandeesh, Pradeep, Chandru and Veeresh Bagewadi in the nabbing and seizing operation.
