Two persons drown in lakes

April 6, 2018

Mysuru:  In separate cases, two persons were reportedly drowned in Doddakere at Yelwal and Bilikere. While one is said to have committed suicide, the other is said to have slipped while fishing illegally and drowned.

In the first case, Erappa (28), a resident of Nayaka Street in Bilikere, who had gone to Doddakere Lake for fishing at about 5.30 am was drowned after he slipped and fell into the lake yesterday morning.

As Erappa did not return home even after 10.30 am, his family members went to the lake where they came to know that he has been drowned and informed Bilikere Police. The Police, who rushed to the spot, summoned swimmers and Fire and Emergency Services personnel to fish out the body of Erappa.

Meanwhile, the villagers said that the Fisheries Department, which had left fingerlings in the lake to grow and local fisheries organisations had lodged complaints with Bilikere Police and with the SP about illegal fishing in the lake and alleged that if the Police had taken action then, this incident would not have occurred now.Bilikere Police, who have registered a case in this regard, are investigating.

In the second incident, a 23-year-old youth, following love failure, allegedly committed suicide by jumping into Doddakere Lake in Yelwal here.

The deceased has been identified as Manju, a resident of Janata Colony in Yelwal.

It is learnt that Manju was in love with a girl and he took the extreme step after the girl reportedly refused to marry him. His slippers and mobile phone were found on the lake bund. Yelwal Police, who rushed to the spot, fished out his body  and have registered a case.
