Mysuru, June 5 – City’s 5th Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced a man and his accomplice to life imprisonment after they were found guilty of murdering a woman.
Those convicted are Chikkanna (husband of the deceased woman Roopa), a resident of Ramakrishnanagar in Mysuru and his accomplice Bharath.
Details: Chikkanna had married Roopa 16 years ago. He had developed illicit relationship with one Dhanalakshmi at his place of business.
Roopa, who came to know about her husband’s extra-marital affair, objected to it. The elders in the family too had advised Chikkanna to mend his ways.
When his children questioned him about his illicit relationship, Chikkanna admitted them to a hostel. While he continued his illicit affair with Dhanalakshmi, leading to frequent quarrels between him and his wife Roopa.
When Roopa demanded Chikkanna to severe his relationship with Dhanalakshmi, Chikkanna, strangled Roopa to death with a saree on Aug. 13, 2024. To mislead the Police, he along with his accomplice Bharath, hanged her body and projected the incident as suicide.
The then Kuvempunagar Police Inspector Arun, who had registered a case, conducted an investigation and had submitted the charge sheet to the Court.
Judge K.S. Roopa, who took up the case, heard the arguments from both sides, found Chikkanna and Bharath guilty. They were sentenced to life imprisonment, besides imposing a fine of Rs. 1 lakh on each.
Chikkanna has also been sentenced to three years additional rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000. Public Prosecutor A.N. Madhu argued on behalf of the Government.
