Mysore/Mysuru: The K.R. Nagar Police have filed a case against four two-wheeler riders for violently attacking Excise Police personnel on duty for the Lok Sabha election while they were conducting checks near Tiptur village close to K.R. Nagar on Tuesday.
The assaulted Excise Police personnel, including Head Constable N. Santosh and Constables Shivappa Balappa, Manu, Mallesh and Sandeep, were admitted to a private hospital. While Santosh sustained serious head injuries, the other three officers suffered minor injuries.
The assailants who attacked the Excise Police personnel have been identified as Prashanth from Bovi Colony in K.R. Nagar, Yashwanth and Raghu from Tiptur village and Prashanth from Kanuganahalli village. Following the assault, the accused fled the scene.
According to Head Constable N. Santosh’s complaint, while they were patrolling on the night of Apr. 2, they stopped a bike near Rama Mandira at Tiptur village for checking, where the rider and pillion verbally abused the Police personnel before fleeing.
Subsequently, when the Excise Police moved towards the village school, four individuals arrived on two bikes and instigated a physical altercation, assaulting them before fleeing.
K.R. Nagar Police, having registered a case in this regard, are currently investigating the matter.
