Ulama-O-Huffaz Union to launch anti-drug drive on Aug. 1

July 30, 2025

Mysore/Mysuru: In the wake of rising concern over the use, sale and impact of narcotic substances on Mysuru’s social environment, the Ulama-O-Huffaz Union, Mysuru District, will hold an awareness campaign on Aug. 1 across all mosques, neighbourhoods and streets in Rajivnagar, according to Union Secretary Naseerullah Khan.

Addressing a press conference at Pathrakarthara Bhavan, Khan said the Ulama-O-Huffaz Union has been actively campaigning against narcotic usage and trafficking in the Mysuru region for the past two years.

Despite these efforts, the sale and consumption of ganja, chemical solutions, drugs and powder-based intoxicants continue to rise unchecked in the city, prompting Police attention and increased public engagement.

Commending the recent crackdown by the Maharashtra Police on a narcotics production unit along Mysuru’s Outer Ring Road, he expressed concern over continued local-level drug sales involving minors in certain neighbourhoods.

He urged law enforcement authorities to take swift and serious action. The Ulama-O-Huffaz Union has already submitted relevant information to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, he added.

In the light of the deteriorating social environment caused by drug use, trade and addiction in Mysuru, the Union has planned a large-scale awareness drive on Aug. 1 across all mosques, lanes, and localities of Rajivnagar, with the participation of religious leaders across communities.
