Unique veena concert tomorrow

Mysuru: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Subbarao has organised a  unique veena concert in memory of his wife Nirmala on Mar.8 at Vasudevacharya Bhavana on JLB Road in city at 6 pm.

Its unique in the sense that artistes performing on the day are of three generations and it’s an all-women team of veena artistes.

The artistes featured are Karnataka Kalashree Vidu. M.K. Saraswathi along with her daughter Vidu. Rajyashree Josyer Srikanth and her granddaughter Aishwarya Manikarnika, accompanied by Vid. A. Radhesh on mridanga and Vid. Sriram Bhat on khanjira.

Profile

Saraswathi hails from a rich musical lineage. She was initiated into music at a young age by her musician mother, Kamalamma, under the keen guidance of her father M.K. Srinivasa Iyengar.

Later, she received advanced training from Dr. Gowri Kuppuswamy, a renowned disciple of the legendary MLV, and from Veena Maestro M.J. Srinivasa Iyengar, a senior disciple of Veena Venkatagiriyappa, who in turn was a direct disciple of the great Mysore Veene Seshanna.

She is thus an embodiment of the legendary GNB and Saint Thyagaraja paramparas. She, in turn, is passing on the wealth of art and knowledge to the younger generations. Her musical heritage is well-continued by her daughter Rajyashree Josyer Shrikanth, who is well-known  in India and Australia for both vocal and veena performances, and her son Vid. G. Venkatesha Josyer, who is a renowned violinist.

Rajyashree Josyer Shrikanth is a profound and talented exponent of Karnatak Classical music (vocal). Being trained under the guidance of her mother, she has also enthralled music lovers in most of the major Sabhas of our country and also she has performed in Woodford Folk Festival, Australia, Sydney Music Circle Concert, BEMAC Cultivart Series-2016,  Brisbane and Music By The Sea Concert.

Rajyashree imparts training to a number of young students in vocal music under the banner of ‘Sri Saraswathi School of Music.’

Being brought up in a musicians family, Aishwarya Manikarnika has a natural flare for music and is being trained in both vocal and veena. She has secured prize in AIR music competition and is also a recipient of CCRT scholarship.
