Unorganised sector workers told to make use of insurance scheme

Mysuru: Assistant Commissioner of Labour  A.C. Thammanna has called up the unorganised sector workers to make use of various life insurances and other accident benefit schemes introduced by the Karnataka State Unorganised Workers Social Security Board under Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Karmika Sahaya Hastha Scheme.

Speaking at the day-long workshop for drivers, organised by Karnataka State Unorganised Workers Social Security Board held at a private hotel in Nanjangud recently, he said that the State Government had constituted the Board with the intention to extend social security benefits to unorganised sector workers who comprises 93 percent of the labour force.

He said that the Board has introduced Karnataka State Private Commercial Vehicle Drivers Accident Benefit Scheme for auto, taxi, maxicab, lorry and private bus drivers who also come under the unorganised sector.

An insurance compensation amount of Rs.2 lakh will be given to the nominee in case of death. Interested drivers can avail this insurance benefit by paying Rs.25 one time registration fee at Karnataka State Unorganised Sector Social Security Board. Drivers in the age group of 20 to 70 years can register their names to avail this benefit, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Senior Labour Inspectors Geetha, Veena and Shashidhar also advised the drivers to make use of the facilities provided by the Board.

Nanjangud Labour Inspector M.C. Madappa distributed first aid kits to 170 drivers, certificate and Rs.350 allowance for participating in the workshop.  Indian Red Cross Society, Taluk Unit Chief Dr. Narayanaswamy provided tips on first aid on the occasion.
