Unused subway on Sayyaji Rao Road a waste of public money

February 20, 2024

Sir,

The unused subway on Sayyaji Rao Road presents several pressing issues. Firstly, its sporadic usage during Dasara, necessitating a new coat of paint each year, could be a more efficient allocation of resources and taxpayer funds.

During the rainy season, the neglected subway transforms into a breeding ground for flies, mosquitoes, frogs and harmful bacteria. This poses a significant health hazard to the shops, businesses, and visitors along Sayyaji Rao Road. Moreover, the subway consumes a substantial portion of parking space on all four sides of the road, including Dhanvantri Road, leading to inconvenience for both customers and shop owners.

The presence of the subway obstructs the visibility of nearby shops, adversely impacting their business. Its placement hinders accessibility, making it challenging for potential customers to locate and patronise these establishments.

Additionally, amid the bustling Sayyaji Rao Road, the subway occupies valuable space that could be better utilised for other purposes. The removal of a traffic signal near the Bata showroom, which previously facilitated smoother traffic flow and benefited both the public and local businesses, further highlights the questionable necessity of the subway’s construction, representing a misuse of taxpayer funds over the years.
