Unwise decision to open tourist spots

Sir,

Apropos the news item “All tourist spots in Mysuru, Mandya open for visitors” (SOM dated Oct.17), it is indeed a very unwise decision now to open all tourist spots during the festival period, after having banned entry to such places earlier.

Although the Government has urged people to follow COVID safety norms strictly, they (people) seem to care two hoots for the same, as is very much evident in the manner they wear their face masks and never maintain social distance whatsoever while at public places.

It is felt that imposing the ban on entry to all tourist spots in Mysuru and Mandya during the festive season is more preferable than opening such places, since there would definitely be large crowds at each of these places, which would only lead to a spurt in COVID-19 positive cases.

Money to be spent on the festivities could instead be used for providing better medical facilities for the COVID-19 patients and people could be urged to watch the festivities live online from the safe confines of their homes, rather than venturing out on the streets. Hope better sense will prevail over the decision.
