Mysore/Mysuru: About 100 University of Mysore (UoM) hostel inmates, under the banner of Mysore University Research Scholar Association and Dalit Students’ Federation, staged a protest in front of Post Graduate Hostel for Men, Block-2 in Manasagangothri campus this morning, seeking better facilities in all UoM hostels.
Association Working President Basavaraju, speaking to SOM said that the A, B and C Blocks of the new PG Hostel were facing acute drinking water problems, forcing the inmates to fetch drinking water from nearby RO water units.
Pointing out that the new building has been constructed and also inaugurated a year back, he said that the new hostel building is yet to see students as UoM officials were not taking any admissions.
Alleging that the roofs of the A, B and C hostel blocks were leaking, Basavaraju said that most of the hot water geysers have become defunct besides stating that the road to the hostel blocks turns slushy during rains. He also said that the food being provided to hostel inmates was not of good quality.
Basavaraju said that UoM Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar arrived at the spot and heard the grievances. “We withdrew the protest after the VC assured of solving the problems within a week,” he added. Association President Nataraj Shivanna, Hon. President Mahesh Sosale, Federation President Manikantaswamy and others were present.
