Athletes of about 80 colleges, affiliated to University of Mysore (UoM), from Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar and Hassan, are taking part in the 91st UoM Inter-Collegiate Athletic Meet, organised by the Department of Physical Education (DPE) of the University, at Oval Grounds here.
The three-day Meet was inaugurated by UoM Registrar Prof. R. Shivappa this morning. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the Athletic Meet had a history of over 90 years and added that it encouraged youths develop punctuality, confidence and spirit of working as a team.
The Inter-Collegiate Sports Meet is a platform provided by the University for athletes to give their best to earn selection to represent the Mysore University at the upcoming Inter-University Athletic Meet.
Students will be taking part in track and field events such as 100 mts, 200 mts, 400 mts, 800 mts, 1,500 mts, 5,000 mts and 10,000 mts Run, 110 mts Hurdles, High Jump, Long Jump, Javelin Throw, Triple Jump, Discus Throw, Hammer Throw, Pole Vault, Shot-Put, 4×100 mts Relay, 4×400 mts Relay, Half Marathon, Heptathlon and 20 kms Walking Race.
Yuvaraja’s College Principal Dr. M. Rudraiah, DPE Director (in-Charge) Dr. P. Krishnaiah and others were present during the inaugural.
