UoM NSS volunteers to adopt and clean city roads

Mysuru: An year-long Golden Jubilee Celebrations of National Service Scheme (NSS) Wing of University of Mysore (UoM) was launched at a function held at Rani Bahadur auditorium in Manasagangothri here this morning.

Inaugurating the programme MCC Commissioner K.H.  Jagadeesha sought the help of NSS volunteers for Mysore City to regain the cleanest city tag. Referring to continued indiscriminate littering of garbage on streets, Jagadeesha said that MCC was contemplating to nominate such violators as leaders for Swachh Survekshan Abhiyan so that they realise their mistakes and undergo a transformation.

Delivering the keynote address UoM NSS Co-ordinator Dr. B. Chandrashekar said that UoM was the first University in the country to open an exclusive NSS Wing. He asserted that the Golden Jubilee celebrations is not a festival but an introspection of the achievements and chalking out future plans. He commended the NSS volunteers for their service rendered in Kodagu and Kerala after the devastation by rain and landslides.

State NSS Joint Secretary Dr. Gananatha Shetty Ekkar speaking as the chief guest said that UoM has an exclusive training centre for NSS officers which has churned out many capable NSS officers over the years. He suggested that a workshop should be conducted as part of the celebrations.

UoM Registrar R. Rajanna presided. Ramakrishna Institute of Moral and Spiritual Education (RIMSE) correspondent Swami Maheshatmanadaji, NSS officers of various colleges and others were present.

The NSS volunteers of UoM took a oath to adopt and take up cleaning work of various roads in city allocating them to respective batches.
