Mysore/Mysuru: The Syndicate of the University of Mysore (UoM) has approved giving four-acre-land on the Manasagangothri campus for establishing the Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Kannada (CESCK).

Currently, the Centre is functioning at the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL). With this, decks were cleared for setting up of the Centre which had been pending for many years. The 4-acre land was located  behind the PG hostel in the Manasagangothri campus.

Prof.  G. Hemantha Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, UoM, said that following direction from the State Government, the Syndicate discussed the matter and agreed to give four-acre land to the Centre. Information regarding this will be communicated to the State Government. Besides, next course of action will be briefed to the CIIL authorities, he added.

Recently, Tourism and Kannada and Culture Minister C.T. Ravi had held a meeting in Bengaluru and had directed the Mysore University to give 10-acre of land on the foothills of the Chamundi Hill where the Varsity is planning for  a second campus.
