Upa Lokayukta calls for honesty among Government servants

Vigilance Awareness Week

Mysuru: Upa Lokayukta Justice (Retd.) K.N. Phaneendra has called upon Government officials and employees to uphold honesty, loyalty, punctuality and humane values while discharging their duties, rather than confining themselves to merely following laws and rules.

He was speaking after presiding over the Vigilance Awareness Week held at ZP auditorium here recently.

Expressing concern over corruption in Government offices, Phaneendra said that Karnataka ranked third among the States in terms of corruption.

Focusing on transparency, honesty and responsibility are crucial in eliminating corruption, he pointed out.

“It is shameful that corruption has continued to persist in Government offices even after four decades of formation of the institution of Lokayukta. It is the responsibility of everyone to work towards eradicating corruption and building a corruption-free society”, he noted.

Maintaining that punctuality does not mean arriving at the office on time and leaving at the stipulated time, he said the staff must be willing to devote additional time to complete their work and discharge their responsibilities whenever necessary.

The Vigilance Awareness Week is observed every year between last week of October and first week of November to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, which falls on Oct. 31. ‘Honesty for Prosperity’ is the theme for this year’s Awareness Week.

Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy, City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, DCP Dr. Harsha Priyamvada, ZP CEO S. Ukesh Kumar, Lokayukta SP T.J. Udesh and others were present.
