Upcoming Chess Champion Dhatri Umesh

Chess is a mind game. It improves memory and thinking ability. This game is gaining huge popularity day by day. Many players from Mysuru are winning medals in State and National level events and bringing laurels to the city. One among them is Dhatri Umesh, an upcoming 12-year-old chess champion from Mysuru.

She started playing chess at the age of 7. From then on, chess became her passion. In the span of five years, she has played over 150 tournaments, both at State and National level. She is two times runner-up in Karnataka State Chess Championships. She has emerged as a champion in the recent Karnataka State Schools Chess Championship-2019 which was held at Bishop Cottons School in Bengaluru.

She displayed exceptional performances even at the National-level Tournaments held in Bengaluru, Jalandhar, Chennai and Hyderabad. She enjoys the game like music and has achieved the glory by her strong determination. She has considered chess as a creative quest with endless opportunities.

Recently she was conferred with ‘Balashree-2019’ award for her outstanding performance in chess.

She is being trained at Mysore Chess Centre, Saraswathipuram, under the mentorship of Suresh and Aravind Shastri. Dhatri is a 7th standard student of National Public School, Vijayanagar, Mysuru. She is the daughter of Umesh and Brunda, residents of T.K. Layout in city. Following Dhatri’s footsteps is her younger sister Diya who is also a National-level Chess Champion.

Dhatri aims to participate in the Commonwealth and World Chess Championship scheduled next year and is preparing for the same.
