Urban Development Dept. Secretary holds drinking water supply review meeting

Mysuru: Urban Development Department Secretary V. Ponnuraj conducted Mysuru City and rural drinking water supply review meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here yesterday.

The meeting, which was held in detail, discussed about the number of sources and quantity of water being supplied to city, steps being taken to measure the quantity of water being supplied, number of reservoirs in city, number of connections given by JUSCO, number of active connections, number of metres installed, number of working metres and the total amount being collected through  water bills.

The meeting also discussed the quantity of water going waste through leakages, measures taken to identify these leakages and preventive measures taken to plug the leakages among others.

Vani Vilas Water Works (VVWW) Executive Engineer L.M. Anand, who provided information to Ponnuraj said that the city which has 65 wards had a total of 1.65 lakh legal water connections, out of which only 1.40 lakh were working.

The officials informed the Urban Development Department Secretary that about 600 MLD water was being supplied to city from Belagola, Melapura and Hongalli water pumping stations and also from Kabini and added that water from High Level Reservoirs (HLR) and Central Source Reservoirs (CSR) in Devanur, German Press and Kuvempunagar was being supplied to various residential layouts.

Ponnuraj also received information that drinking water to some areas were being supplied through gravitational force, while some areas had direct connections from the main pipeline. The officials also informed him that 46 villages were being supplied drinking water through the newly implemented Kabini project.

Ponnuraj, after receiving all the information, suggested the officials to rectify the problems in drinking water supply within a week and keep the machines in working conditions to supply water continuously.
