Urdu Seminar held in city

Mysuru: Karnataka Urdu Academy had organised a Seminar titled “Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and Urdu Mein Marsiya Nigari” at Arafath Function Hall on Shivaji Road in N.R. Mohalla here on Tuesday.

The Seminar was inaugurated by Dr. Syed Qadeer Nazim Sargiro, Chairman, Karnataka Urdu Academy by watering a plant. Seminar began with the recitation of versus from the Holy Book of Quran and Mir Nasir Ali presented Naath-e-Shariff. S.Moinuddin Pasha, Convenor of the Seminar and Member, Karnataka Urdu Academy, welcomed. Siraj Ahmed Khalid  presented a brief report about the various programmes organised by the Academy for the development of Urdu language by conducting seminars, Mushaira, Qawwalis, Ghazals and competitions across the State on various issues. Dr. B. Sheik Ali, former Vice-Chancellor, Mangalore and Goa Universities, delivered the keynote address on the life and achievements of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, founder of Aligarh Muslim University.

Mohamed Azam Shahid, Urdu Columnist, Dr. Abdul Rub, Professor, Department of Urdu, Gulbarga University, Dr. S. Sattar, Head of the Department of Urdu, Shri Venkateshwara University, Tirupathi, Dr. C. Syed Khaleel Ahmed, former Head of the Department of Urdu, Kuvempu University, Shivamogga, presented papers. Prof. S. Masood Siraj, former Dean, Faculty of Arts, University of Mysore, presided.

In the second session, Dr. C. Syed Khaleel Ahmed, former Head of the Department of Urdu, Kuvempu University, Shivamogga presided. Moulana Syed Mohamed Abbas Sajjadi, Principal and Chairman, HIAI Trust, Moulana Ghulam Hyder, lecturer, HIAH, presented their papers.

Syed Shafi Ahmed, Member, Karnataka Urdu Academy and President, Anjuman-e-Hadeeqathul Adab compered all the sessions. Famous Urdu Poets Abdul Rahman Khan Gauhar Tarekervi,  Ikram Kavish, Syed Ahmed Rahil, Momina Mukhtar, Mohamed Mumtaz Ahmed, Member, Karnataka Waqf Council   and Abdul Mujeeb, Director of Muslim Co-operative Bank Ltd., were also present.
